Dan Druff's Poker Tip of the Week. Dealing with Poker Debt

Neverwinpoker.com knows a little something about poker debts. WSOP Bracelet Winner Dan Druff explains. And for thos who don't like to read, a Dan Druff tribute video follows Dan's Words of Wisdom, courtesy of Mike G/DiggyWiz.

I'm not defending neverwin for not paying newhizzle, but....

Some of you have no idea how much crazy debt there is in the poker world. This 70k is a drop in the bucket compared to what some people owe.

Take any full table of high-limit action, and at least 3 of the people are in debt. No joke.

Now, who ends up getting paid, and in what order? This is where the old saying, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" comes in. If you act cooperative and laid back about getting paid, you won't. If you just sit back and hope the guy will come to you with the money, he won't. Poker debts typically get paid in the following order:

1) People who are physically intimidating
2) People who are owed a moderate amount of money, and are persistent with nagging for it
3) People who are owed a small amount of money, and follow it up to at least some degree
4) People who are owed a large amount of money, and are persistent
5) People who are owed a small amount of money, and are laid back about it
6) People who are owed a moderate amount of money, and are laid back about it
7) People who are owed a large sum of money, and are laid back about it

Unfortunately for Newhouse, he was in category #7 until recently. Now I'd put him in category #4.

Why do small debts get paid back first? Because they're easier to pay. If you owe someone 5k, and can get him off your back by paying him 5k, it's far preferable than paying 5k to someone you owe 70k to. The guy who is owed 70k is unlikely to be pacified by 5k, and even if he is, it won't last long.

When I speak of being "persistent", I mean you make life difficult for the guy who owes you money. You call him every day. You constantly hassle him for the money. You make it known -- without directly threatening him -- that his reputation will be tarnished. That last part is pretty powerful, as the biggest fear of a broke degenerate is a bad "credit rating" amongst his peers.

Newhouse has definitely gotten more aggressive with Dustin lately, which is to his benefit. However, I believe he jumped the gun by posting that inflammatory blog about the situation. By posting that blog, Newhouse essentially shot his load. Everyone knows the story now, and Mark now has nothing to hold over Dustin's head. Had Mark held out a bit longer, I think he could have used the THREAT of the blog to extract money. Now it's too late.

I'm not saying that Newhouse should give up. He shouldn't. However, it might be a bit harder to get the money now than in the pre-blog days.

In any case, if Dustin owes Mark money, which it appears he does, he should pay up. Period. It's the right thing to do, even if Dustin is unhappy with him personally about the blog. Money owed should never be withheld as a result of personal beefs. I would suggest Dustin work out some sort of reasonable payment plan with Mark, where he pays the debt 5 or 10k at a time. That might make things easier on everyone. It's unlikely that Mark will see all 70k at once.

NWP Lithuanian of the Year : dadis

On NWP, a mods job is to randomly handout avatars, mess with poll numbers, out dupes, and well.....that's about it really. Maybe resize an avatar or two.

But when Tony G bought Neverwinpoker.com he had hopes of making a little money, and brought some professionals to mess around with the format, fix technical bugs, implement new stuff (embedded youtubes and whatnot). That's where the Lithuanians come in. Obv. Maruxz is the Chief of these new Lithuanian overlords, and it seems he cut his teeth working on pokernews. Maruxz brought a team of highly trained Lithuanian techies to help him make NWP bigger, better, faster, and stronger.

Seemas is a bit aggressive, Axe either got fired or is working hard behind the scenes, Maruxz is obviously calling the shots, but the winner of NWP Lithuanian of the year has to go to my main man, and all around great guy dadis.


dadis basically pwns the stickied technical problems thread on NWP. He's helped countless members with log in issues, helped introduce the youtube and hand history features, and was a huge part in the pm system overhaul. But it's his attitude that really shines. Always a nice smiley face in his responses, extremely helpful, brushes off any Eastern European bashing, and just goes to work making NWP that much stronger.

Born to gypsy parents, dadis never had anything handed to him for free. Making a name for himself as one of Lithuania's premiere DJs, he eventually got more involved in computer generated music, which eventually led him to master computer code, and computer nerd stuff you guys don't even wanna know about. Always the lady's man, dadis eventually made a website based on all the girls he had romanced in Europe, and while browsing through the hookup section Mr. Maruxz saw that this website was extremely well put together and drafted young dadis for Team Tony G.

dadis, keep doing what you're doing, if NWP does eventually "blow up huge", you're going to be one of the biggest reasons. :)

This blog, and my internet presence will be going on hiatus until who knows when, probably starting on Friday. I had big things planned for this blog, micon and sidedish interviews and other cool things. Really needed a final table or a serious heeb run to justify staying online, but couldn't get it done. Big ups to the stakers, and sorry I couldn't pull a win for us. I'll still be accepting stakes up until friday morning I guess, but it's not looking good.

NWP Pro of the week: charder30

Actually, this may be the only NWP pro of the week that we do here. There's only about nine total to begin with, and it really isn't the most illustrious title on NWP to begin with. To quote completebag aka sidedish da king, who was being considered for the pro title "No thanks, they're all tools.". Why I can neither confirm or deny this, I will say that those few NWP pros add very little to the site in terms of posting.

When I joined NWP Charder30 was given the pro status, so I missed his legendary NWP journey, although I did go back and read many of his HOF episodes. For a quick overview I'll go ahead and let you read what Weissman420 had to say about charder's origin from the nwp wiki page (minus the cock gobbling pics of course, this is a family orientated site)

Christian Harder AKA charder30 is a 20 year old multi table phenom who during most of his NWP career took a HOF type beating. Charder, who resides in the state of Maryland also goes to school at George Mason and is majoring in Government and Int'l Politics(or did). Charder made the critical mistake of posting pictures that included him hugging goats, as well as pink collar popped shirts. When charder30 first joined NWP he was immediatly slapped with the scammer avatar for spamming out referral codes and held onto that for a short duration. Charder soon than received the ultimate punching bag avatar, and one of the first unique punching bags of our time.

Once charder received his megabag the masses were relentless. A thread was once started in his honor with a famous pic of him getting a dick to the face like a cheap Atlantic City hooker. The thread was started by Hugh_Chardon and was originally named "Gay Poker Player in Porn" and the opening post was this: (photoshopped charder fellatio pic)

For a longtime charder was also known to go bust frequently by playing way over his roll, but always had a great understanding of the online tournament poker world. He put in countless hours and was determined to hit it big one time. Unfortunately, it didn't happen as soon as he probably wanted.


These pictures were pretty much the end for charder for a longtime here at NWP, but just like poker, he began to run good with the people as well. He came back to the online world and won a 150$ nightly MTT on stars and all of a sudden he was the peoples champ, the glass Joe of online poker. People routed for him, and he began to tear it the fuck up like only heeb has seen before. He went into the 100-200 game with a fearless attitude and everyone acknowledged what he had become. After all of his beatings at NWP, he had the witt to come back and show people he wasn't just some goat fucking nerdbert. He was a mtt baller. He has since lost the avatar and became a respected figure at NWP, as well as the biggest luckbox we have probably seen in awhile.

I wouldn't have taken the time to do this if I didn't respect you Christian;)


Recently charder30 has taken some flack for never posting on NWP unless it had to do with a brag post, aka what he won that day, or his standing in a mtt. He was called out on this many times, and eventually toned it down. With numbers like this however, it's hard to fault him. Hell, with 118k in cashes on Fulltilt alone this year, one can jardly blame him. Sources say he may have even been able to keep about 50k of that after stakeback and 50/50.


Charder30 had the scammatar, and the elusive Bag4Life avatars, and still managed to rise above and become nwp pro. Basically every mtt he wins is a giant "fuck you guys" to those who used to tease him mercilessly (although he'd never actually come out and say it).

And now a confession. Charder30 is the nwp poster I am most jealous of. NWP douche underdog(no offense chard) makes good. Rags to riches. Bag to baller. Everytime I think I might make a final table, and I think it might be my time, I often think of Charder30. Once in awhile you can actually see me type in "Charder help me" when a big hand is going down. Charder and I've never talked, but I have a strange respect/contempt for the guy. Basically just a sick case of envy on my part. I'll leave you with this. A broke begging ass pm to soccertease from charder, dated september of '05. Dare to dream kids.
